Jan Philipp Reemtsma

born 1952 in Bonn. Studied German Philology and Philosophy in Hamburg, Prof., Dr. phil. In 1981 he established the Arno Schmidt Foundation which he has chaired since 1983; co-editor of the Bargfelder Ausgabe of Arno Schmidt's works. In 1984 he founded the Hamburger Institut für Sozialforschung which he also chairs; Professor of German Literature at Hamburg University.

Publications include: Das Buch vom Ich. Christoph Martin Wielands 'Aristipp und einige seiner Zeitgenossen'(1993); Mehr als ein Champion. Über den Stil des Boxers Muhammed Ali (1995); Der Vorgang des Ertaubens nach dem Urknall. Zehn Reden und Aufsätze(1995); Im Keller (1997); Mord am Strand. Allianzen von Zivilisation und Barbarei (1998); Warum Hagen Jung-Ortlieb erschlug. Unzeitgemäßes über Krieg und Tod (2003).
