Tomas Venclova

The most famous contemporary Lithuanian author. Born 1937 in Klaipeda. Co-founder of the Lithuanian Helsinki-Group in 1976, in 1977 expatriation from the Soviet Union. Since 1980 Professor of Slavic Literatures at Yale University. Publications include: several collection of poems, the most recent one Rinktine (1999), poetry-translations, essays, articles and the novel: Aleksander Wat: Life and Art of an Iconoclast.
